Man of cloth honours men in blue

Police top brass received a special prayer from controversial pastor Alph Lukau of Sandton’s Alleluia Ministries International church on 22 January.

According to Gauteng police, Minister of Police Nathi Nhleko and acting national commissioner of police, Lieutenant-General Khomotso Phahlane, were accompanied by members of police management and Metro police.

Sandile Ngidi, the minister’s spokesperson, said an invitation to attend the special service was extended by the church, and this gelled with police management’s keenness to reach out to citizens.

“Police work under strenuous conditions and the prayer was a token of appreciation for the work they do,” he said.

Lukau famously held a conference at Gallagher Estate in Midrand last September, claiming all women who attended the weekend affair would find a husband within 90 days. VIP tickets were allegedly sold to scores of congregants for between R450 and R5 000. A few months later, the controversial man of the cloth posted pictures on Instagram of him posing next to and sitting in a Ferrari California T sports car which is worth more than R3 million.

“Alleluia Ministries International gave the minister of police an award of honour on behalf of all crime-fighters and law enforcement officers in South Africa, and a certificate of encouragement to the acting national commissioner of police,” said church spokesperson, John Ferguson.

“The church prayed for the safety of officers who [endanger their lives] in the line of duty and encouraged the community and the Saps to work together in defeating crime and ensuring law and order in our society.”
