Ithute Primary School was one of the recipients of Bic® South Africa’s Buy a Pen, Donate a Pen programme which is part of the Back to School campaign running throughout the year.
The school received more than 10 000 stationery items from the more than 1,2 million that are being distributed to disadvantaged school throughout the country.
The no-fee school received a combination of pens and pencils to be used by the 1 000 learners that attend the school. The pens are distributed with the help of Brainwave and the Read Foundation.
“We want to adequately equip millions of young children with the relevant stationery tools to fulfil their basic educational needs,” said Karen Moodley, brand manager for stationery in southern, eastern and central Africa at Bic®.
“It is a reality for many parents that sending children to school can be difficult as they struggle to afford stationery and Bic® has heeded the call and, since 2011, has supplied more than 10 million underprivileged children with stationery thereby #PoweringTheirPotential and taking the anxiety away from parents and teachers while allowing the children to focus on their education,” Moodley said.
