An Alex resident has debunked the negative perception about the commitment to duty by our women and men in blue.
Isaac Mangena witnessed recently an incident involving a female cop’s laudable bravery which led to the recovery of suspected stolen goods and a motor vehicle. In a Facebook message, Mangena said, “At a time when heroines are in short supply among us, enters Constable Nkele Mbatha from Alexandra but based at Sandringham Police Station.
On 3 August while off-duty, she noticed and followed a suspicious-looking vehicle which was moving recklessly at the intersection of Alfred Nzo and 8th avenues. “Its two occupants sped away and she pursued them in her own vehicle until she cornered them after [they]crashing into a side barrier and another vehicle.”
Officer Mbatha managed to recover the reported stolen car, TV sets, clothes and other household appliances after the criminals presumably escaped. “She could have decided to go on with her routine as we all do on our off days, but she put her life in danger, responding to the call of duty, and to uphold the oath she took that she will serve and protect.”
Mangena said, “In this Women’s Month and throughout the 365 days of the year, Constable Mbatha is my hero and she is worth this recognition.”
