An Alex man, charged with the murder of his girlfriend, will be asked for his plea on 1 August by Alex Magistrates’ Court.
The 44-year-old Abel Rankapale, a plumber with access to chemicals, appeared on 16 July before Magistrate Renier Boshoff assisted by state prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri.
He is charged with her murder, after she died on 10 July at Joburg Hospital due to acid burns from a liquid he is said to have poured all over the body in the afternoon of 23 June. She died while undergoing treatment.
The victim’s daughter reported the incident to the grandmother who called an ambulance which took her to the hospital. While there, she informed the mother that he had poured acid on her after an argument.
