Varsity College teaches children of Emfundisweni Primary School how to be responsible

In their quest to give back to the community, the IIE Varsity College Sandton campus donated a garden to Emfundisweni Primary School.

A group of 12 student volunteers from the college got their hands dirty on 15 June to teach the children how to plant vegetables and the importance of having a garden at school or at home.

The group donated vegetable seeds and gardening equipment such as spades, forks and watering cans which the children will use to cultivate and water their veggies.

Student relations manager at the college, Bonolo Mosinege said…, “we have this initiative to give back to the community. We chose gardening because it’s something that is sustainable and will teach children responsibility in life. As we commemorate Youth Month we want to teach them that being a youth comes with responsibility.

“They must know that for them to eat, they have a responsibility to do what it takes to have their stomach filled.”

Mosinege said this was just the beginning, as they will take their initiative to other schools in and around Alexandra.
