Winter is regarded as a season of fire which claims many lives in Alexandra, hence the City of Johannesburg took the time to educate the young about fire safety.

The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) in collaboration with Barron, a corporate and promotional brand company, visited the Alex Aids Orphanage Project to offer training and hand out some goodies to the children.

Speaking to dozens of little ones at the orphanage, EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi highlighted the importance of educating the younger generation, in particular, about safety. “We don’t have to come and teach you about safety after the damage has been done. We want you to learn about safety precautions now, while we don’t have any fire problems so that when the fires start in winter, you know what to do. You, the young ones, should always make sure that your family is practising fire safety at all times and not only in winter,” Mulaudzi said.

Steven Isaacson, CEO of Barron, who was accompanied by marketing manager, Musa Ndlovu, alluded to the importance of corporates working with communities they operate in to find solutions to a number of challenges and social ills.

“We endeavour to help the communities that we operate in, particularly those who are less privileged. We hope these beanies and scarves will make a difference in the children’s lives this coming winter season,” Isaacson said as he handed over the cosy items.
