In a media conference at the Union Buildings following Jacob Zuma’s announcement that he would step down as the president of the country, the deputy secretary-general of the ANC, Jessie Duarte said the ANC accepted Zuma’s decision.
Duarte said Zuma’s decision was consistent with his earlier statement today, 14 February, that Zuma has never and will never defy his organisation.

“He has reaffirmed his commitment to the principles, practices and character of the movement to which he has dedicated his life,” said Duarte.
She went on to say that while they accepted Zuma’s resignation, they reiterated that the decision to recall him was taken ‘only after exhaustive discussions on the impact such a recall would have on the country and the ANC’.
