Let the holidays begin

Joburg has had some joyous times and some very tragic ones. It was the year of doing good, with the likes of Good Samaritan, Pam Green helping the homeless, bursaries being given to needy pupils, students taking a stand and showing leadership in #FeesMustFall, and vulnerable children being assisted with the CEO Sleepout.

That said, 2015 was also the year water restrictions came into place, the year when dog abuse victims made headlines and xenophobic attacks shocked residents across the country. It was the year where the rand reached an all-time low and, just recently, our president sacked the Minister of Finance for no apparent reason.

Yes, 2015 will be remembered as a year with mixed emotions, as every year is.

As the holidays finally arrive I, for one, am very grateful. Joburg during the Christmas season is beautiful and relaxing. Whoever thought that you could put Joburg and relaxing in the same sentence …

To our wonderful, opinionated and generous readers, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The North Eastern Tribune team is looking forward to sharing your stories and opinions with the rest of the community in 2016.

If you are travelling out of Joburg for the festive season, buckle up and stay safe. If you are remaining in Jozi – well, buckle up as well … and remember that just because you are home, does not mean you are not on holiday – if you are lucky enough to be getting a short break from work.

Thank you for an amazing year and see you in 2016!
